My French-Belgium friend came for visiting me in Slovenia on his way to Italy. For 1 day and a half we managed to see Škofja Loka and Ljubljana, to have a meal in a few good places that I know here. He was impressed by “postcard” views of Slovenian nature, cheep prices for food, a huge glass bottle of Laško, some domestic birds and animals that we saw in Škofja Loka.

Have a good time in Italy Gauthier and thank you for visiting me here. :) By the way Slovenia is 5th country where we saw each other.

As far as you know there are 5 EVS in Škofja Loka now. Four of them are the only children in the family. Our EVS coordinator – Matjaz, was the only child also. So maybe, generally, people who were grown up without brothers and sisters are more interested in EVS? :-)

P.S. Poor Erhan, he is the only one among us who has sister, now he has to survive with us – egoistic and spoiled creatures :D

“Mesto v Barvah” is yearly May festival organized by Atelje CLOBB and Zavod O. I enjoyed that day a lot: sunny weather, Škofja Loka is full of people (finally), kids all over the town, colorful paint, street musicians, painting and pictures, Slovenian national dances, free orange juice, tightrope walkers, Indian hut with a storyteller, theater performance for children, etc.

From my point of view the event had a success, Zavod O and Tina Vatič (the current coordinator of
Ateljeja CLOBB and a responsible person for the event) can be proud of it. :)

This time is full of common projects. On ZavodO’s initiative we organized EVS party for all EVSes of Slovenia in Ostriga. For the beginning we made a promo video. It’s up to you to judge the result, but I really enjoyed the process while we were making this video.

The event started at 17:00, for those who came on time we asked Matjaz to make a guided tour around Škofja Loka. Then we went to Ostriga where everyone enjoyed grilled vegetables, chevapchichi and some delicious Turkish sauces prepared by Erhan.

According to the plan we made a Jam session, more precisely, those who play musical instruments made it. :-) It was cool and nice, but too short for me, on the other side I can understand musicians who were already a bit tired. Then… a nice dancing night. For people who couldn’t stay until morning were arranged places for sleep in the local scout house.

I personally liked this event, also I heard positive responses about this party. A bit pity that not too many EVSes could come. There were 3 Portuguese girls, 2 German guys, 1 Lithuanian girl, 1 Ukrainian girl, 1 Bulgarian girl, 2 Slovenians (Bulgarian girl’s mentor and friend), 4 Latvian girls who do their Erasmus in Slovenia (invited by Janis) and 5 of us (Silvia, Erhan, Janis, Anastasia, me). And of course we had our mentors, coordinator and some local people who were curious about the party.

The second day was planned for Lubnik, but guys who were motivated to hike the day before were absolutely tired and lazy in the morning, so climbing the mountain was not accomplished. Maybe for the next time. ;)

Each month there is a photo exhibition in Ostriga. Silvia and I were asked to present our pictures in May. We chose “Windows” as a topic since we used to take pictures of windows in different countries before. Silvia’s windows are from: Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Argentina and Uruguay. Mine – Croatia, Greece, Portugal, Italy (the former Austrian part).

Mito Gegič, an artist who lives in Škofja Loka now, was the first one who saw our pictures. Without knowing which pictures are Silvia’s and which are mine, he paid attention to two of them, and called both of them perfect. One picture was Silvia’s, another was mine. :-)

I really liked this event, I guess people had a good time also because of the musical performance by Erhan and Janis. Erhan made a cool sound from our pictures using one special computer program, then guys improved it by live playing.

Now our pictures are hanging the whole month in Ostriga.

Fantovščina is a Slovenian name for a bachelor party. Many of them I saw on the streets of Slovenia, Austria and Belgium during my EVS. Usually every Saturday Škofja Loka is full of such drunk guys. :) One Saturday afternoon I had a possibility to participate in this kind of party.

Our EVS flat is situated on the main square of Škofja Loka, so we are always aware about everything what happens there. On that day I looked from the window of our kitchen because of loud music, laugh and voices outside. At the square I saw about 20 guys in yellow t-shirts surrounding one guy who was trying to dance with any girl he could, the dance was simple but as I understood because of the music, it was something traditional Slovenian (Polka). So I was sitting on the windowsill and stared at them, at one point they noticed me and started to ask to go downstairs to dance. My first intention was not to go, but then I changed my mind just to do an opposite thing to my wish.

Downstairs I was explained that he was going to get married in one week, but now he has to do this funny actions because his friends gave him a task to do it.

P.S. We saw 5 “fantovščina”, 1 “dekliščina” (girl’s party) and two weddings in Škofja Loka on 18th of May. :-)

Every third Wednesday of the month Stripburger prepares a small comics exhibition in Ostriga. Stripburger is slovenian comics zine (official slogan: kick-ass international comix zine with a distinct slavic flavour), first published in the 1992. It covers comics by foreign as much as local artists, maintaining the quality of the selection and opening new approaches to the medium. Exhibition in Ostriga each month shines the spotlight on new artist or on new comic book that’s worth knowing.

But I decided to stop and choose an occupation where I can use my little grey cells. Anyway from time to time I find my “victims” to satisfy my childhood dreams.
